Cat. #001582112222: MERVYN JOHNS

Scarce vintage blue fountain pen signature on a 4x5-inch tan autograph album page, acquired in-person in the 1930s. In good condition. Familiar-faced character actor Mervyn Johns-- the father of actress Glynis Johns-- excelled at playing nervous, trod-upon husbands, employees, shopkeepers, and clerics. Among his many wonderful film roles were those of Thomas in Jamaica Inn (1939), homicidal madman Walter Craig in the horror masterpiece Dead of Night (1945), Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol (1951) with Alistair Sim, Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet (1954), Jones in 1984 (1956), Peleg in Moby Dick (1956), Brother Juniper in Francis of Assisi (1961), Mr. Coker in sci-fi's The Day of the Triffids (1961), and Potiphar Femm in the remake of The Old Dark House (1963).
