Cat. #0017316: COLLEEN MOORE

Charming vintage 3.25 x 5.5-inch black and white postcard portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the early 1920s. In good condition. Silent movie queen Colleen Moore established herself in Hollywood with the aid of family friend D.W. Griffith.  After memorable work in Little Orphan Annie (1918) and a string of westerns with Tom Mix, she starred as the iconic Patricia Fentriss in Flaming Youth (1923) and was thereafter pegged as the quintessential "flapper".  Due, in part, to her acclaimed work in three silent film versions of hit Broadway musicals, Sally (1925), Irene (1926) and Oh Kay! (1928), Moore was the top box-office draw in the U.S. by the late 1920s, pulling in the phenomenal sum of $12,500 a week.  She made a smooth transition to talkies, shining as Hester Pryne in The Scarlet Letter (1934), but she abandoned Hollywood in 1934 to concentrate on various business ventures.
