Cat. #0057901: JAMES WHITMORE

Increasingly uncommon vintage 8x10-inch black and white close-up portrait, showing his trademark sad, affecting eyes, boldly signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen in 1994, the year of his celebrated role as Brooks Hatlen-- the old-timer prisoner who takes his own life due to difficulty adjusting to life in the free world-- in The Shawshank Redemption.  In good condition, with gentle border creases which do not substantially detract from the overall appearance of the item.  Two-time Oscar-nominated actor James Whitmore stole scenes in character roles for five decades, memorable in films like Battleground (1949), The Asphalt Jungle (1950), The Red Badge of Courage (1951), Kiss Me Kate (1953), the sci-fi classics Them! (1954) and Planet of the Apes (1968), Battle Cry (1955), Oklahoma! (1955), Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), and Give 'em Hell, Harry! (1975).   He also starred in a classic episode of T.V.'s "The Twilight Zone" entitled "On Thursday We Leave for Home" (1963).
